Soda Bottle Planter Project

Knowing that Shelby is on spring break this week made me a little nervous.  How would I entertain the little chatterbox and keep her entertained so that she didn't sit in front of the tv for hours on end?  I needed something that was fun and getting dirty is always fun.  Being that I had a collection of empty soda bottles from all our Calvary Chapel Morris Hills Community Group meetings that I didn't want to throw away I decided to recycle them into planters.  Yes, I saw it on the web somewhere!

Shelby decided to make a giant sand hourglass with these two soda bottles!
Soda bottles measured with a can of beans and then cut.
Duck taped the edges so we wouldn't cut ourselves. Then I took a brand new mop strings and strung them thru the opening...Um I just remembered I forgot to make drainage holes!
Added dirt, water and now Shelby is getting ready to start adding the seeds...how exciting!
Voila! C'est fini!
This is what little miss Shelby did with the leftover mop! Now I know what I'm gonna look like with white hair!

Hope you enjoyed this as much as we did!  Truth be told...I think I enjoyed it more than Shelby did!

Week 1 - Ten Tips

Ok LOSERS...First week of our contest has begun.  We've got 17 women and 9 men competing to be the Biggest Loser.  How are you feeling?  Are you in it to win it?  Well let's get everyone started with 10 tips:
Tip 1:  Picture time!  Take that much dreaded picture and post it on the fridge, computer, car, whereever you are bound to look at it.  Having that constant reminder of what you want to do and why you want to do.  It will help keep you motivated!
Tip 2:  Stay connected.  We all need a support system when the going gets rough.  Text, call, email, tweet, FB someone in the group!
Tip 3: Revamp your kitchen.  Yes, I said it, go clean out that fridge, empty those cabinets, get rid of all that junk food.  Feeling guilty about throwing it out? Donate it to a neighbor, your church or food pantry.
Tip 4: Watch those calories.  Did you know that there are 3500 calories in one pound of fat!  Yes, I said it, FAT, FAT, FAT.  Therefore, if you want to start losing weight you need to start decreasing your caloric intake.  So if you ate 500 less calories per day x 7 days = 3500 you would lose 1 pound!
Tip 5: Set a goalBe real about it.  Decide how much you are going to lose per week and strive for that.  If your goal is too high, you'll lose your momentum and give up.
Tip 6:  Healthy habits.  Replace your junk food with good healthy food.  Fruits and veggies are a great way to get you started.
Tip 7:  Get moving.  Walk, run, pop in a dvd, start exercising.  Get off your bottom!!!  Oh, you don't want to?  Fine, then sit in front of the TV with two gallons of milk (yes, filled with milk) and lift them up and down while you watch your show.
Tip 8:  Water.  Water.  Water.  Yes, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day.  Sometimes you might just think you are hungry, but you are really dehydrated.   So before you decide to eat, try a glass of water first.   Water will also help you lose weight and flush those toxins out of your body.
Tip 9:  Write it down.  Once you start writing down what you ate during the day, you are going to notice that maybe you didn't eat enough or you ate too much.
Tip 10:  Slow down.  It takes about 20 minutes before your stomach tells your brain your fill.  Do you know how much more food you can pile into your stomach in 20 minutes?  Slow down, eat sitting down, put that fork down between bites and drink water.

Yeast free starting today

It's decided.  Today I begin (once again) the journey into removing all yeast products from my diet.  I can no longer stand feeling tired, sleepy, always craving food in spite of not being hungry.  The infections, the headaches, migraines, the continual brain fog, body aches & pains.  There is no satisfaction, I just keep eating, I get heartburn, then feel worse...  The insanity must stop now!

So, rather than cold turkey everything into a raw food diet, I will do it slowly.   Tonight for dinner I am making baked pork, baked yams & baked potatoes for dinner.  I will detox slowly...  I hope the family doesn't get too upset or notice the change in their diets! ahaha

A glimpse at Sofia...

Ever feel like God is trying to show you something? That's what I felt like and it immediately brought me to tears and gave me peace at the same time! Why you ask? Well, a child of mine in heaven came down for a little visit, at least that's what I think. A baby lost, who Shelby named Sofia from day one. White sitting in a waiting room, I had the pleasure of observing a beautiful little blond curly haired girl, no more than 2 years old I would imagine. After a short while of watching her, her mother said "Sofia, let's go". I had one of those oh - my - GOD moments! Immediately my mind raced and my heart sank and I couldn't help but wonder if the beautiful little girl I was watching with such joy was a glimpse of my little Sofia up in heaven having a good time, playing, smiling, laughing. I felt like God was saying to me...see she is ok, I'm taking excellent care of her. I know that David once said "Can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.” 2 Samuel 12:23 (NKJV) but for some odd reason I still feel God gave me a glimpse of my little Sofia. I look forward to the day when I will have all eternity to spend with her in heaven.

My Wow Factor: Picking Summers at Porzio!

I love Google Alerts!  In they come…alert after alert.  It seems that the article published on June 10, 2010, Behind Closed Doors: What One Firm Looks For in Summer Associates written by William A. Krais and Carole T. Mecca was published by the New Jersey Law Journal.  It was quite a hit!  Various blogs were reposting sections of the article.   Needless to say, for those of us just entering the world of blogging it was extremely refreshing to see that others found the article as interesting as we did.  Great Job William A. Krais and Carole T. Mecca!
